Data Drives the Future of Health Care

As FDA’s Chief Data Officer, Ram C. Iyer spearheads the development and execution of the agency’s data modernization strategy, building robust central and federated functions that can be leveraged agency-wide for FDA’s mission-critical work. The scope of FDA’s data modernization strategy ranges from data identification to making effective decisions with the available data.

Ram is a recognized data and technology professional with experience in the Pharma, Consulting, and Telecom industries as well as in international government organizations. His expertise includes Data and Decision Sciences, Digital and Technology Architecture, as well as Talent Development with a focus on building collaborative partnerships and ecosystems.

In his leadership roles, Ram has jumpstarted several data and analytics practices, including enterprise class platforms for reproducible research, model management, and visual analytics. Additionally, Ram built a thriving network of data scientists, data analysts, visual storytellers, and agile specialists to tackle urgent and complex problems in the organization.

Chris Lunt is the chief technology officer for the All of Us Research Program. Chris has more than 20 years of experience designing web services and other data platforms, and has spent the last 10 years working as a technology executive. He joins the NIH from GetInsured, where he served as the vice president of government solutions for the past 4 years. There he worked with the federal government, states, and the vendor community to improve health insurance shopping and enrollment systems. Previously, Chris worked as an HHS entrepreneur. He has also served as the vice president of engineering at Readyforce, the chief executive officer of Nombray, the founder and vice president of engineering at WisdomArk, and the senior director of engineering at Friendster.

Thomas Osborne, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at Microsoft, Federal Civilian. Described as a visionary catalyst, he has devoted his professional career to accelerating advancements at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and business. He is driven to solve challenges for broad positive impact and shared success.

Dr. Osborne and his teams have uncovered insights and developed innovative tools that have changed the practice of medicine. His work is published in leading medical journals on topics such as cancer, infectious disease, neurologic disorders, surgery, pain and anxiety, climate health, falls, elder care, determinants of health, telehealth, diagnostics, predictive analytics, drug repurposing, cost savings, employee morale, strategy, efficiencies, health risk, and safety. He has been collaborating broadly with leaders in industry, nonprofits, and government, and together they have positively transformed healthcare with the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, 5G, sensor technology, wearables, robotics, augmented reality, and virtual reality.

Dr. Osborne received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and completed his clinical residency and fellowship at Harvard hospitals. He has been an advisor and mentor to other healthcare leaders for most of his career. He is also an adjunct Clinical Professor at Stanford in the Department of Neurosurgery.
