Karen Hay is a Digital Health Transformation Lead, Global Public Sector, at Salesforce. During her 20-year career in Canadian public health she was a public health unit epidemiologist (her first outbreak was SARS), she founded Ontario’s provincial infectious disease surveillance program, and she led the development of foundational provincial digital health assets and integration projects including prescription drug and immunization registries. At the Ontario Ministry of Health Karen led the provincial technology response to COVID-19, developing new systems for case and contact management, vaccine administration and inventory management, and public-facing systems for vaccine appointment booking, proof of vaccination certificates (QR codes), and viewing lab results. She has led pan-Canadian efforts to modernize public health technology, establishing interoperability frameworks and terminology and messaging standards, and was the 2019 recipient of Digital Health Canada’s Leadership in Digital Health Award.
