Air Force Taps New Deputy Chief Data and AI Officer
Col. Bryan Sparkman previously served in the application division at the Joint Staff and will work on the service’s 2025 goal to be AI ready.
Col. Bryan Sparkman is the new deputy chief data and AI officer at the Department of the Air Force. Sparkman joins the Air Force following a stint as chief analyst of the force application division within the Joint Staff.
He replaces Col. Anthony Lang, who took on the deputy CDAO position in January 2024 and has now retired. Lang served in prior roles in the Air Force and Joint Staff.
Sparkman will contribute to enabling the Air Force to leverage data to support its missions, strengthen its readiness and improve its cybersecurity posture.
Chondra Donelson has been serving as acting chief data and AI officer after Eileen Vidrine retired in March. The office is working to get the service AI ready by 2025 through efforts like creating innovation hubs and accelerators with universities like MIT.
