HIMSS: AI’s Role in Health Care Innovation, EHR Compliance
Leigh Burchell (Altera Digital Health), Chair, EHR Association Executive Committee
Tina Joros (Veradigm), Chair, EHR Association AI Task Force

Federal agencies and industry partners are increasingly exploring AI use to improve health care. As adoption rates increase, so do policies and regulations around the emerging tech.
In the first half of 2024 alone, state legislators introduced 745 AI-related bills and Congress held numerous hearings on the topic.
Veradigm LLC Vice President of Policy & Innovation Tina Joros and Altera Digital Health Vice President of Policy & Public Affairs Leigh Burchell, who also chair the EHR Association’s AI Task Force and Executive Committee respectively, joined us at HIMSS in Vegas to discuss the evolving role of AI in electronic health records. They dive into the impact of federal legislation on AI development, the challenges of balancing innovation with compliance and how global regulatory approaches are shaping the future of AI in health care.
