Advancing Defense Infrastructure
Fixed Wireless Access as a catalyst for the DoD’s next-generation connectivity.
This white paper addresses how the Department of Defense (DoD) is revolutionizing connectivity to address challenges like outdated infrastructure and the high cost of traditional wired methods. A key mandate from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is to deploy private wireless networks leveraging 5G and Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN). Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), which uses 4G LTE and 5G cellular networks, is positioned as a vital, cost-effective, and robust alternative or complement to wired connectivity. FWA is ideal for the military because it can be rapidly deployed (in days rather than weeks) virtually anywhere and does not require extensive physical cabling, reducing disruptive fiber trenching.
