Army Corps of Engineers Advances Data Initiatives with New Analytics Office
Walton Cheung, Command CDAO, Army Corps of Engineers
At the AWS Summit in Washington, D.C., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Command Chief Data and Analytics Officer Walton Cheung outlined plans to establish the agency’s first enterprise data and analytics office.
The mission of the new office is aimed at breaking down data silos and improving collaboration across its civil, military and emergency response missions. Cheung said the Corps is working to integrate with the Army’s Vantage data platform and align its IT services with Army enterprise networks to enable faster decision-making, strengthen cybersecurity and improve efficiency. He said that while artificial intelligence remains a top priority, organizations must first build strong IT infrastructure and high-quality data foundations for AI to deliver meaningful results.
