Federal AI Leaders Receive Flywheel Awards from GovCIO Media & Research

Five federal AI leaders were presented with Flywheel Awards in recognition of their contributions and impact on the AI community.

Fairfax, Va. – GovCIO Media & Research, a leading federal technology multimedia company, hosted its inaugural AI Summit on Nov. 7 in Tysons, Virginia. Key federal AI leaders were presented with Flywheel Awards during the event in recognition of their contributions and impact on the AI community. 

“These awards underscore the critical role of transformation in government technology,” said President Michael Hoffman. “At our inaugural AI Summit, we’re excited to unite this community, build meaningful connections, and celebrate the groundbreaking work of AI leaders across government.” 

The awards presentation featured five categories: Rising Star, AI Talent Advocate, CAIO of the Year, AI Innovator and AI Evangelist. Among those recognized were leaders from the General Services Administration (GSA), Air Force Research Lab, National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Institute of Health (NIH), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Housing and Urban Development and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The winners were:  

Rising Star 

  • Collen Roller, Senior Data Scientist, Air Force Research Lab 

 AI Talent Advocate  

  • Ryan Ross, Acting Director, Presidential Innovation Fellows, GSA 

CAIO of the Year  

  • Eric Hysen, Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO), DHS 

AI Innovator  

  • Christopher Tighe, Senior Strategic Advisor, ICE   

AI Evangelist  

  • Ola Olude-Afolabi, AI Visionary, AI Center of Excellence, Department of Commerce 

“As someone who is working hard to bring AI to fruition for the Department of Defense, I want to say thank you,” said Collen Roller, Senior Data Scientist, Air Force Research Lab. “It really means a lot to me personally as we work to move the ball forward with this technology and provide it to users in many different ways and use cases, aiming to improve people’s daily lives.”
