From FedRAMP to Industry: Tips for Successful Career Transitions
Brian Conrad, Former Director, FedRAMP
Former FedRAMP Director Brian Conrad’s five years overseeing some of the biggest developments with government’s cloud authorization program involved wearing “a lot of hats,” but his career spans a swath of experience from the Marine Corps and now in industry directing strategic compliance initiatives at Zscaler.
Conrad said that there are big differences in mindset in the shift from government to industry, moving from making a government organization run its best — like FedRAMP — to focusing on how his contribution can bring value to a company’s bottom line. He emphasized the need to think entrepreneurially and find ways to support an organization’s mission.
For others transitioning out of public service, Conrad noted the importance of networking and making the extra effort to stay in the forefront of peers’ minds.
