Courtney (Court) Corley is the chief scientist for artificial intelligence (AI) in the AI and Data Analytics Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He is a leader in the field of data science and biosurveillance, and his current work focuses on deep learning and narrow AI methods across the United States Department of Energy and U.S. government missions. Corley co-led the Deep Learning for Scientific Discovery Laboratory Directed Research and Development investment, applying deep learning across the breadth of PNNL’s science and security missions through dozens of efforts. This resulted in a significant increase in AI publications and the recruitment of new researchers specializing in AI at PNNL.

Corley’s specific areas of expertise are deep learning, natural language processing, AI for science, assured AI (including safety, security, and adversarial machine learning), human-machine teaming, and few-shot learning.

Scott Godwin serves as the Director of the Center for Cloud Computing at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Its vision is to pioneer transformative advancements in the use cloud technology and computation paradigms. This includes innovation aimed at developing secure, scalable, and sustainable cloud solutions, empowering scientific discovery and data-driven research and applications.

Godwin’s leadership in national security involved spearheading advancements in cybersecurity, analytics, artificial intelligence, and cutting-edge mobile networking (5G and beyond) that has propelled PNNL’s research and customer strategies. The resulting programs contributed to critical infrastructure security, cyber-physical situational awareness, cyber defense training, intelligence collection, non-proliferation and arms control.

Godwin also served as the senior technical advisor and deputy to the Department of Energy’s chief information officer. In this capacity, he led DOE’s Data Center Modernization Initiative and workload migration to cloud infrastructure. This strategy addressed DOE’s limited-legacy, infrastructure services, while driving a significant reduction in the data center footprint and associated energy consumption.

Before joining PNNL in 2009, Godwin spent 15 years at Microsoft Corporation in a variety of roles. As managing director he led Microsoft’s Worldwide Business Operations function, and oversaw the operations of venture integration, business development, and execution of product and service strategy initiatives. During his tenure, Godwin also helped shape and implement Microsoft’s approach to competitive and regulatory pressures, including the consent decree with the Department of Justice.

Prior to Microsoft, Godwin had roots in the nuclear industry from a program management and audit perspective. He was instrumental in the start-up and development of multiple efforts involving nuclear material remediation and transport with the U.S. Department of Defense and DOE and helped manage facility controls and compliance.

Greg leads the Strategic Capture, Intelligence Programs and Dept of Defense businesses for the Nutanix U.S. Public Sector team. In this role, Greg leads a diverse team of senior sales, consulting and engineering professionals who are dedicated to supporting our most sophisticated and complex accounts in the U.S. Government. Greg brings over 25 years of experience enabling Federal government IT to advance their digital modernization. Prior to joining Nutanix, Greg held leadership positions at Infoblox, Netcordia, IBM, and Netscape where he successfully built and scaled federal sales teams multiple times from pre-IPO stage through public offering. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.

As the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) Chief Medical Officer, Dr. States advises and supports the Assistant Secretary for Health (ASH) and other senior OASH leadership regarding issues of national public health importance through collaboration with OASH program offices, the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) enterprise and interagency, and critical external stakeholders. The strength of these relationships is enhanced by data-driven evaluation to identify areas of greatest need in the support of developing the most impactful recommendations to the ASH and other senior leaders.

Before being named to the permanent CMO role in OASH, Dr. States served as Deputy and Acting CMO from October 2018 to January 2020. During his time with OASH he has been fortunate to contribute to the development or advancement of initiatives concerning health equity (health equity in innovation for aging medically underserved populations, stigma reduction in persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), persons living with disabilities, persons with a history of substance use disorder), social determinants of health (Building a Healthier America initiative), and disparities reduction (Sickle Cell Disease in youth and hydroxyurea utilization, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest).

Prior to his arrival at HHS Dr. States was a Navy Medical Corps Officer where he served as a Public Health Emergency Officer to Navy Medicine West ensuring public health protection to over 500,000 active duty personnel spread across the Pacific region. During this time he also was assigned to Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit FIVE where he served as Department Head for Operations, and Officer in Charge for the Forward Deployable Preventive Medicine Unit – team FIVE. He also served as Battalion Surgeon for 1st Battalion, 1 Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he deployed in support of combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom serving as the senior medical department leader to a population of over 1200 Marines in garrison and combat settings.

Dr. States is board certified in Preventive Medicine, and is a current member of the American College of Preventive Medicine. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Azusa Pacific University in 2005 and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine in 2010. In 2015, he completed his Master of Public Health Degree with a concentration in Population Health from Loma Linda University School of Public Health. He also graduated from the Loma Linda University Preventive Medicine residency that year, serving as Chief Resident in his final year of training. He is anticipated to complete his Master of Business from the George Washington University in the fall of 2021.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and multiple unit and campaign awards.
