Five federal IT leaders were presented with Health IT Flywheel Awards in recognition of their contributions to federal IT.

Bethesda MD – GovCIO Media & Research, hosted its Health IT Summit on September 2 in Bethesda, bringing together leaders across federal health agencies to discuss the technologies shaping modern care delivery. Federal innovators were recognized with Flywheel Awards at the summit, celebrating their impact in advancing interoperability, strengthening cybersecurity, modernizing EHR systems and driving forward the framework that support better patient outcomes. 

“These awards highlight the crucial role innovation plays in improving how federal agencies deliver care,” said GovCIO Media & Research President Michael Hoffman. “At Health IT Summit, we were honored to convene leaders who are modernizing systems, fostering collaboration and shaping the future of federal health IT.” 

The awards presentation featured five categories: Rising Star, Interoperability Leader, Digital Transformer, Innovation Champion and Health Advocate.  

The 2026 Health IT Summit Flywheel Awards winners were:  

Rising Star:   

Tabinda Khan, Senior Advisor, Chief Strategy Officer, CMS 

Interoperability Leader:  

Nick Weber, Director, Office of Scientific Computing Services, NIH CIT 

Digital Transformer:  

Shauntia Bell, Acting Director, Enterprise Systems Solutions Group, CMS 

Innovation Champion:  

Capt. Heather Dimeris, Director of the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, HRSA 

Health Advocate:   

Mike Tartakovsky, CIO, NIAID
