The Cyber Unified Coordination Group, an effort between the U.S. intelligence community and the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is in the midst of coordinating its response to the recent discovery of a major hacking incident across various agencies last week.

The Cyberspace Solarium Commission wants the Department of Homeland Security to work with other federal agencies and Congress to address significant vulnerabilities in the IT supply chain by reshoring manufacturing of some critical parts, integrating supply chain risk management intelligence efforts, and shifting the supply chain away from China and overall Chinese influence.

During the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, the U.S. was heavily reliant on providers in Asia for things like personal protective equipment as it had little to no manufacturing capability for these items.
