Silvia Oakland is a staff writer/researcher for GovCIO Media & Research, where she primarily covers the Department of Health and Human Services.
Prior to joining the team in 2024, Silvia was a communications associate at Briya Public Charter School where she focused on multimedia content creation and student outreach. She also worked as a multimedia reporter in Iowa covering feature stories in Northeast Iowa.
Silvia earned her Bachelor of Arts in journalism and communications from Wartburg College.
During Silvia’s spare time, she enjoys going to the movies and local music events. Silvia is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Her favorite things to do are cooking new recipes, attending local festivals and spending time with her two cats, Ambrose and Luna.
